The project aims to analyze and contextualize the history of the Centro Intercultural de Documentación (CIDOC), the think tank and meeting place promoted by Ivan Illich in Cuernavaca (Mexico) during the years 1966-1976. By analyzing the educational, editorial and research activities carried out by CIDOC, the objective is
to understand its social networks and its ecclesial and cultural connections, in order to enlighten its international relevance. In particular, the study will identify the links the Centro established with Latin American contexts and with some meaningful North American and European cultural groups. Some hypotheses will be also proposed about CIDOC’s evolution over the years, in relation to the international political scenario; the post-conciliar anxieties in the Catholic world; the progressive
radicalization and “secularization” of Ivan Illich’s thought.
