From its origins in ninetheenth-century speculative philosophy, Russian Cosmism has remained tied to its utopian and evolutionary roots. Directly linked to religious imaginary through the Christian concept of apokatástasis, Russian Cosmism as a form of “speculative semiotics” still remains bound to themes of immortality and social transformation. Against assumptions that contemporary speculations on the future of immortality imply the disappearance of any form of religious transcendence, in my research I am willing to develop a comparative account between Russian Cosmism and American Transhumanism in order to understand how the ongoing processes of inheriting the temporal structure of an “aporetic” salvation may accompany both the messianic element of the Cosmist political utopia as well as the techno-gnostic outlook that Transhumanism carries within itself.
