The research will examine the background of the Curia reform of 1588. It aims to study the pontificate of pope Gregory XIII (1572-1585) and its role in the Curia transformation’s process before the sixtine reform. Particularly, special attention will be given to the creation of new cardinal Congregations and to the strengthening of the preexisting ones.
