My research project is based on the recognition of a significant number of repetitions of identical textual strings in the Gospel of Matthew. To date, more than 40 such repetitions have been identified covering over 135 verses (approximately 12.5% of the text). This phenomenon, which has
already been observed in the Gospel of Mark, has not been considered by critics with regard to Matthew. The aim of this project is to address this gap in the academic literature by studying the incidence and importance of this feature of the Gospel of Matthew in the history of its redaction and
transmission between the first and fourth centuries (with particular attention to the Constantinian age). In accordance with the methodological principles of the Biblia Constantiniana project, the indirect tradition (i.e., citations and allusions found in the early Christian writings), which has
hardly ever been taken into account so far, will be systematically integrated into the study of the history of transmission.
