Davide Mocellin

My research project focuses on the analysis of the writings of Nag Hammadi Codex I and is developed along two main lines. First, the project involves an in-depth study of the individual texts that make up the collection and a study of Codex I as a collection of interconnected works. Secondly, an attempt will be made to provide a contextualisation of Codex I within the Christian religious environment of Egypt in the 4th and 5th centuries. Underpinning this perspective will be an analysis of the theological debates of the time, with a focus on the early Origenist controversy, to which the writing of Codex I might be connected.
