

Giovanni Vian is Full Professor of History of Christianity at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. In his research activity he studies the dynamics of the history of Christianity from 1800 to the present day. He has explored the modernist crisis and its anti-modernist reaction, the history of the papacy from the 20th–21st century, pivotal moments in the history of the Catholic Church in Italy, and the events of the Christian Churches in Venice.
He is a member of the scientific committees of the series Italia sacra. Nuova serie (ISIME), Studi di storia (ECF), and Chiese d’Italia (Viella) as well as of the scientific board of the journal Storia e problemi contemporanei. He is general editor (along with C. Arnold and V. Ciciliot) of the Journal of Modern and Contemporary Christianity. His latest book, with Claus Arnold, is La Redazione dell’Enciclica Pascendi.
